The Cold Lake Air Show wins the Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award
The Cold Lake Air Show has been honored with the 2024 Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award by the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS). This prestigious accolade, named after former Blue Angel Commander Dick Schram, is awarded annually to a military base that exemplifies outstanding community relations and sets new standards in integrating civilian communities into the planning and execution of its air show. Notably, this is the first time a Canadian air show has received this distinction since Canadian Forces Base Borden in 1997.
The 2024 Cold Lake Air Show faced significant challenges, including smoky weather from neighboring wildfires that reduced planned flying hours. Despite these obstacles, the event achieved remarkable success, largely due to the unwavering support of the community and the dedication of the organizing committee. The integration of community events, such as the Friday night street festival hosted by the City of Cold Lake and other local festivities, played a pivotal role in fostering strong community ties. The air show’s commitment to collaboration and excellence has solidified its reputation as a world-class event, eagerly anticipated by performers and spectators alike.
Welcome from the 4 Wing & CFB Cold Lake Command Team
On behalf of 4 Wing and Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the Cold Lake Air Show and to our community. Whether you are joining us from nearby or travelling from afar, we are honoured to have you here and grateful that you have chosen to spend this time with us.
Cold Lake is a community that understands aviation. For generations, the sound of aircraft overhead has been part of daily life, and the strong bond between the base and the city continues to shape who we are. The Cold Lake Air Show reflects that relationship by bringing together residents, military members, families, and aviation enthusiasts in a shared celebration of skill and service.
Together with the City of Cold Lake, our community partners, and our valued sponsors, we are proud to open our base and showcase the professionalism and dedication of the Canadian Armed Forces, alongside exceptional civilian performers. Each air show gives us an opportunity to connect with the community, to welcome guests onto the base, and to share the people and capabilities that make Cold Lake a global centre for aviation excellence.
We are also proud of the growing reputation of the Cold Lake Air Show on the international stage. Recognition from the International Council of Air Shows, including the Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award, underscores what this event truly represents: cooperation, leadership, and a shared commitment to community.
